Boutique Hotel: New Row South Dublin. 'De Gem'. I wanted the space to have an organic flow throughout by creating curved walls leading from reception to the bar and out to the restaurant.I chose to combine old with contemporary as I felt some of the elements in the building needed to be highlighted and accentuated such as the original stone walls, arch windows and ceiling trusses. In the restaurant I wanted to create an exciting yet dramatic atmosphere, contrasting with the soft and lush feel of the bar and reception. Here I used dramatic coloured furniture (orange, red and black) and large hanging lights over the curved mezzanine, topped off with a glass roof to give the feel of being outside yet being completely sheltered.
